The Mutianyu Great Wall is a well-preserved section of the Great Wall of China, located in Beijing’s Huairou District.

It is surrounded by forest and runs along a ridge for approximately 2 kilometers, from Tower 1 on the east side to Tower 20 on the west side.

The wall you see today at Mutianyu is a restored version of the original wall, built in the 14th century during the Ming Dynasty. However, there has been some form of wall here since the 6th century, during the Northern Qi Dynasty.

One of the main sights at the Mutianyu Great Wall is Zhengguan Terrace, which consists of three linked watchtowers that guarded the pass.

On a clear day at Mutianyu, you can stand on the ancient wall and see all the way back to the modern skyscrapers of Beijing’s Central Business District.

Overall, with its numerous intact towers to explore, along with towering parapets and battlements, the Mutianyu Great Wall is an excellent example of what the Great Wall would have looked like during the Ming Dynasty.
