Huanghuacheng ‘Lakeside’ Great Wall
The one with the lake, and boats.
The Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall is a repaired and restored section of the Great Wall of China, found in Beijing’s Huairou District.
It is part of a longer stretch of Great Wall that is known as the Huanghuacheng Great Wall.
The Great Wall we see here today was built during the Ming Dynasty, constructed in the 1400s on top of the older Northern Qi-era Great Wall, and later reinforced in the late 1500s.
The name Huanghuacheng – Yellow Flowers Town – comes from a nearby village of the same name, where one of the Ming Dynasty-era garrisons was situated.
This section is also known as the Lakeside Great Wall because the Great Wall here stretches over hills beside a lake, with two places where the Great Wall dips down into the water.
The Lakeside Great Wall Scenic Area is the only part of the Huanghuacheng Great Wall that is officially open for visitors to explore.
